I work for a small company where I over see the IT duties. The other day owner of the company comes to me and says he wants me get him a new office computer. The one he is currently on is around 7 to 10 years old. I believe it is running windows 7 but I am not 100% sure could some thing older too. Any way my question since I have never really dealt with server other than backups and updates. Is it hard to change out a workstation? And can any one tell me of a good resource site for this type of thing. Our server is running windows server 2011 small business. Thanks you for any help.

If you don't' know the difference between your server and the owner's new office computer, then DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, hire a local IT person to assist, you are severely outside your league. If the machine is 7 to 10 years old your talking XP or worse, any number of issues can result, and more so you will have a big impact when your Owner suddenly gets Windows 8 dropped in his lap.

Hire a external professional, it be the simpliest way to deal with something this foreign for you.
