Intel: I'd suggest the 4790k or 4960x extreme. Both are top CPU's worth the bucks.
AMD: You could ho with the fx8350 for gaming, but not sure about editing.
Overall, it comes down to your budget and preferences, though I'd recommend the Intel CPU..

For workstation and gaming, an LGA 2011 CPU makes more sense. Depending on your budget, you could get at least an i7-4820k or wait for Haswell-E, which will carry a higher price tag.
