Hi everyone! I have an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop (pretty old,I know) and I noticed quite a big issue today : after playing something on it, it always heats up pretty bad and it suffers FPS drops, so I decided to open it up and clean it really well. After that,I decided to not put the external piece of plastic back on so air can flow better (I have a coolpad for it, now the air blows directly on the components). GPU and CPU run at pretty good temperatures (45-50 degrees Celsius in idle), but the HDD and RAM are incredibly hot when I touch them, almost to the point where I have to take my finger off them after a few seconds.

This is incredibly worrying of course, especially because the HDD is brand new (the old 250GB one died, so I got a 500GB WD Blue). The specs are : 4GB of RAM (2x2GB), Core 2 Duo P8400 2,2Ghz and nVidia GeForce 9600m GT. Any suggestions? What should I do?

RAM and HDD get very hot when just browsing the net or even idle. They are hot either way, games or not. And hey,my laptop can play League of Legends and Hearthstone just fine, can't complain. :p

This should not happen. The age of the laptop is starting to show. For example, my laptop is 3 years old and the ram is just warm and the hdd is a little hotter but it's working within optimal parameters. The temps vary from one model to another, and the main reason comes from the quality of the components and their arangement inside (airflow).

I guess so,the laptop is from 2008 or 2009... Mine is still working good too, even if it overheats a lot,it never shuts down or something like that,it's working like it is supposed to. I am just worried it will die on me soon...

Unfortunately so... Thank you for clarifying this to me, I didn't think age would matter this much! :D

Fortunately, my cooling pad has 2 fans that I can move. One blows over the CPU and GPU and the other one over the HDD and RAM. I don't know how much that helps tho, I just hope it will keep the laptop running for as long as possible. Thank you for your reply, I never thought age can affect a laptop in this way!
