Hello long time reader first time poster....great site has helped me out of many a jam thank you to all. I couldn't find the answer to my current hang up so I am posting...
I have 2 Iomega 2t hdd my computer can see 1 but not the other I used to be able to access both. The one it doesn't 'see' now I get the computer beep that something has been connected via usb but can't see the hdd anywhere device mgr disk mgmt nowhere. But I can safely remove the device that is the only place that I can see the hdd. I attached it to my wife's computer and no problem. I backed up all data formatted assigned different drive letter (also tried the same drive letter as the one that is working) on my wife's computer and still mine won't recognize it I tried it empty and with a few files on it. My computer is windows 7 ult. and my wife's is win7 basic they are both older laptops mine is core 2 duo p8700 4gig ram 32bit my wife's is similar just less memory and slower processor...I am kinda ruling out bad hdd and bad encasement as both hdd are recognize on my wife's computer, can be written to and from on one laptop I don't hook them up to my computer at the same time. Not sure what is wrong if anybody out there has any ideas please let me know thanks Justin.

If you can see the hdd's drive letter you are lucky.
Open command promt with admin rights and execute that command:
chkdsk x: /f /r
you need to replace x with the hdd's drive letter
let the computer for 1-3 days working. Look at your disk then, tada, repaired.

Thank you for your reply I tried it but still no love from my computer my wife's still 'sees' the hdd
but mine doesn't it took 1 night to check and fix the disk but when all was said and done it didn't
look like anything was fixed as far as my computer is concerned. I can still 'see' it only to safely
remove device nowhere else....it's crazy that the one computer can read write do everything
normal but the other can't and it used to be able to and I have 2 hdd that are identical...if you or
anyone else has any ideas I'm all ears. Thanks Justin.

Your wife's computer can read it? I didn't mention that. You should try removing the hdd's drivers and replace them with the latest ones. Hope it will work.

First of all, my name is not justin, but chris. Your name might be justin. I made a document with quotes from solutions. Try all of them, one should work.
