Yes it should work, as that CPU has the same numer of pins as the socket. However, your motherboard may not pick it up if it has an older BIOS. Update your BIOS, if there is a new release. A quick and fast way to make sure is to go to the motherboards website and see if your particular motherboard will work with the 4690.
WOn't updating the bios require me to already have an LGA 1150 CPU? I'm buying both brand new.
Question, since you are buying both brand new, why are you going with the older Z87 chipset over the Z97? Only reason to do that is if your getting a smoking deal on that older board. As to already needing the LGA 1150 CPU to update the BIOS, in most cases yes. I assumed you had the older Z87 board and were getting the newer CPU. However, some of the Asus boards do not require you to have a CPU to update the BIOS.
