My QNAP TS-212 was reporting SMART errors (197, current pending sector) and bad blocks. I took out the drive for warranty return and wiped it in a Windows (8) pc. To my surprise several Windows tools no longer report any SMART issues with the drive (DFT for Windows, HD Tune Pro).
I am still running a (long) error scan but how is it possible QNAP reported SMART errors but I don't see these anymore now?
(drive is a Hitachi 2TB HDS723020BLE640).
