I'm using the 4790k and overclocked it to 4.6ghz with 1.275V
I'm also using 2133mhz ram
Is the voltage too high?
I tested OCCT for 25 minutes and didn't fail. What other tests should I make?

Anything higher than 1.425 is getting high you got a nice chip and a nice overclock.

Yeah, that voltage is totally fine. Did you have any luck on lower voltages than that? I overclocked a friends 4790k and we got it to 4.6Ghz with a bit lower voltage using 2133Mhz RAM as well. Either way, nice overclock :)

Lower than that, I only tried 1.250 and it failed. Also with my actual OC the temps are a bit high imo... while running OCCT i get temps from 65 to 80 and sometimes it gets near 90. I'm using a Noctua nh-15d cooler with mx-4 thermal paste. My case is a define R4. Are these temps normal?

no with that cooler and that low voltage i think you need to speed up your fan speed or replace the thermal paste.

i think my fans are set to be at 100% when the cpu hits 75ÂșC. does this thermal paste have a burn-in time? I re-installed the cooler yesterday

no the thermal paste doesnt run out or have burn in time. something is wrong try downloading cpu temps and checking it out.

My 4790k runs the same temps on my 4.6 OC with 1.224v and it's consistent on all the temp monitoring software I've used. Either my sensors are borked or the TIM is not up to snuff.

What batch of chip do you have?

i dont have a i7 but i can tell you the temps shouldnt be hitting 90c. you have sensors in the chip or in case or what. have you check your cpu cooler to see if its working. try opening up both sides of the case and seeing if temps go down.

I've done some tests today, my results:

Gaming (watch dogs maxed), no side doors open or front, additional fans spinning at minimum speed: Average 60ÂșC max 71ÂșC
OCCT, All doors open and fans spinning at max: 78ÂșC max on all cores except for #3 which was 73ÂșC

Should I replace thermal paste?

maybe also are you stress testing.

if its a stress temp that would explain the high temps.

I'm pretty sure it is a stress test :p

So, does that mean everything is ok?
I'm not a pro at ocing but I want to have sure that everything is working properly and that the cpu will last a reasonable amount of time

yeah it should be test your temps on a game. if its in the low 60c high 50c your good.
