CPU cooler inquiry

Hi there :)

So basically I have a i7 4770k running and a Corsair h60 v2 cooling it. My problem is at the moment the cpu while idle is at 38-42 degrees celcius and under load around mid 90's/100 degrees celcius. Either my pump is bad or something like that or I have a air gap between the pump and cpu with the thermal paste. So my question is can I just simply unscrew some screws and lift the pump off for a short amount of time to check stuff and then put it back on? I do not have any thermal paste but I am planning on buying some if that is the case to get my temps normal. I just want to see if I can check on an air gap, if not I shall buy a thermal paste, remove the stock one and apply my own. Thanks in advance! :)

Hey legend again :) we have spoken before if you remember and I explained my reasons of getting the h60 v2/2013 edition. Although the problem is not with cooler being bad in general it's just that I have a particular problem which when solved my temps should be much better.

Yeah the cooler came with pre applied thermal paste. I was looking to buy some of my own hopefully that will help.My case has great airflow, 3xNzxt 120 fans at the front intake full speed, 3xCorsair SP120 at the top exhaust full speed & 1xSp120 on the radiator exhaust connected to motherboard. And from looking at the pump/cooler it looks properly attached and making contact with the cpu but that's why I was asking whether I could simply remove it quickly check stuff and quikcly put it back on just in case there is a air gap. Oh and how do you resolve air gaps?? :)

Always clean and reapply thermal paste when you remove the cooler / waterblock from the CPU.

A Corsair H60 is not the best of coolers for an i7 4770k if you want to push it, they get (really) hot when overclocked.

Don't remove the cpu block unless the computer is off. If it's off, you can take it off for longer than a short while and check for bubbles in the TIM. Also, you will want some thermal paste handy when you take it off, taking it off and putting it back without new thermal paste almost guarantees bubbles. Get the paste first, clean both sides CPU and block, re apply paste, re apply block, screw it down. Done.

I am not and won't be overclocking my i7 4770k, I only do gaming the h60 v2 was a cheap liquid cooling solution I went for as I like good looks in a pc :) and air gap I mean by between the cooler and the cpu I've heard about it causing problems.

Ah ok perfect :) I won't be removing the cooler for now then until I get a thermal paste from amazon.
