Will this be a significant upgrade in audio

I currently have a ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 sound card.
Would it be a big upgrade if i got, lets say a, ASUS Xonar Essence or equivilant?

sound cards are super unnecessary unless your running like 5 speakers or something. but if your a audiophile then yes.

...what are you listening through? If you have a $200+ pair of decent headphones or a 5.1/7.1 speaker setup, then it might be; otherwise, there are better places to spend your money.

never mind for that expensive headset unless you have a ROG board i would use a quality sound card for the best sound reproduction.
