I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this, but I'm using a corsair h100i and i would like to overclock my fx 8320 to match an 8350 (its a 0.7 GHz difference) would the h100i be able to keep it cool? if so, how do i do it

Solution
Yes it should. The best way is through the bios, but is slightly more complicated than software. The easiest way is through AMD Overdrive, which is a free, downloadable software. Just search for AMD Overdrive. But there are a few guides you should browse through before trying.

Try this one out.

Or this one.

And here is the link to AMD Overdrive. The download is the last choice.

thanks, i also heard that overclocking it to over 4ghz (in this case i would need 4.2) makes you have a blue scree? should i try only doing a little at a time and working my way up to it

Yes you definitely want to only go a little at a time. Never jump up a lot at once. It all depends on each chip and the motherboard. Each CPU will overclock a little differently. And I mean two of the exact same chip will overclock differently.

Hello,

just to reply as I got my FX-8320 around a week ago. I used AMD Overdrive for clocking and Prime95 for testing and the results for me are as follows:
- 3500mhz - 1.250 volts. passed. Temp max 47c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 3700mhz - 1.325 volts, passed. Temp max 51c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4000mhz - 1.350 volts, passed. Temp max 54c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4000mhz - 1.325 volts, passed. Temp max 53c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4000mhz - 1.300 volts, passed. Temp max 51c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4200mhz - 1.325 volts, passed. Temp max 55c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4400mhz - 1.350 volts, passed. Temp max 57c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.
- 4400mhz - 1.325 volts, passed. Temp max 55c during 1h of Prime95 blend test.

Room ambient is 26c. (yup... hot).

AMD Overdrive settings, turbo core disabled. Only multiplier changed. So far I have not experienced a single crash, blue screen, boot or failure. I most likely will from now on rather experiment lowering on volts more than getting more cpu power. I like to keep it cool. =)

Problem for me is that after each restart the clocks and volts are back to default with turbo core enabled... AMD Overdrive does not seem to remember them. But from overdrive settings, I saved the latest setting as default so now at every boot, I just have to start overdrive and press 'load defaults' to get back to 4400 with 1.325 volts and that is it.

In my normal use (playing EUIV, that is CPU bound) the core temperatures do not even reach 50c. My cooler is Scythe Ninja 3 with one silent cooler wired to cpu cooler connection and another (noisier one) to system cooler connection so that the latter kicks in later. I use speedfan to control the fans so they start rotating when temp hits 45c. I have stuck a thermometer to my cpu cooler's heatpipe and it gets ~45c during prime95. Bottom fins and heatpipes are warm, fins at top of the cooler are cool to hand.

I have no doubt this will overclock exceptionally well even beyond the 4400mhz. Really nice value for money. =)
