My gigabyte R9 280x has gaven me a lot of problems from blue screens with a video memory errors + every time I install the AMD drivers for R9 280x the card shows up as 7900 series in device manager and i have had to uninstall them like 5 times before windows will get the R9 200 series drivers installed. I've already sent this card out for RMA 2 weeks back it came fine all drivers installed good and now i'm having the same problem again. I have an XFX r9 270x that work perfect with no problems at all so i know its not my build. I have put so much time into this card and trying get it to work I don't want to RMA it again and waist money on shipping and have the card come back the way it left. Do you guys have any ideas i can do to fix this issues?

thanks guys

The R9 280 is a re branded 7950 with a few tweaks, a 280x is a re branded 7970. Some programs will show you it is a 7900 series, some will show it as an R9 200 series. It won't hurt it to have it displayed either way as it is basically the same card under the hood. Some of the first 280x's were detected as 7900's because the BIOS versions used in the cards were essentially the same as the previous 7970 cards. Don't install the drivers from the disc it came with as those usually are not up to date drivers. And never use the Windows Device manager to install Graphics drivers. Just go to AMD's website here, download the newest WHQL driver for your card, uninstall any existing Graphics drivers, reboot and then install the new ones...

Just go to AMD's website here, download the newest WHQL driver for your card, uninstall any existing Graphics drivers, reboot and then install the new ones. Uninstalling the previous drivers is key, especially if you had a different card running in there before putting the 280x in. Once it's up and running properly, you can install updated drivers on top of the old ones unless they are Beta drivers, in which case you must uninstall then install the new ones. I always stick to the WHQL ones, unless the Beta drivers contain a fix for a game I'm playing.

The site will ask type of system (Desktop Graphics), what product family (R9 series), product (R9 2XX series) and O.S. you have from the drop down menus. Make sure to not to accidentally select 32 bit if your running 64 bit windows, or the other way around. Also make double sure it is the right version of Windows selected too.
