So I just built my first gaming pc. Now when I first built it I hadn't bought a hard drive yet so I was stuck on bios. I had an idea to take the really crappy 32 bit windows 320 Gb hdd out of my old laptop so I could actually use my system (if you haven't noticed I was on a very tight budget). Well today I bought a wd 1TB blue hdd to replace it. The problem? I cannot afford windows. Currently I am installing ubuntu and plan on using it to game on (since it is actually 64 bit and I can utilize all of my ram) until I get enough cash to buy windows unless I absolutely fall in love with ubuntu. I'll be playing minecraft and using WINE/Steam etc. So my question is what would the steps be to reformat my hdd so I could then install windows as I have heard a boot file from ubuntu will prohibit windows from being able to be installed?

TL;DR
How does one go about formatting a hard drive running Linux so it is capable of downloading windows?

You have been misinformed. It is easy enough to install Windows on a Ubuntu system, but will need a little extra work as this overwrites the bootloader. When you are ready to install Windows come back and ask and someone will point you to the correct procedure. Once you've gone through the intract procedures of getting Windows games to run on Wine (those that will run) you should have no difficulty with this.
