I wanted to connect my tv set up box to the hdmi port on my monitor and the use the d-sub port to connect to a cpu. Is this possible ?

Also will there be a huge difference if I use d-sub port instead of hd port for pc in gaming ?

You can use both, but only one at a time.

HDMI and DVI do perform better than VGA (VGA is analog, the others are digital - HDMI carries audio, where DVI only video). It would depend upon the game as to performance differences - if there is a big one - you can get a HDMI switchbox fairly cheaply so both can be HDMI.
