Adjustable Signal Amplifier Placement

I recently purchased a new cable modem and router. I also moved the location of these devices farther away from the spot where the cable comes into my hose. Since the move, we get periodic internet drops that last for a few seconds up to a minute. At first, I thought it was a wireless issue, but then discovered it was happening even to my computer which is hardwired.

I started researching and looking at my cable modem signals. All my signals are good with the exception of my upstream power level which averages around 49-51.

I ordered:

PCT 1-Port Variable Gain Signal Amplifier With Active Return

This particular unit is adjustable for gain on both the downstream and upstream side. I think I need that, as my downstream values are good and I don't want to impact them.

My BIG Question is related to placement:

Should this amplifier be placed close to the modem or close to wear the cable comes into the house? My thought is close to the modem as this would boost the upstream signal close to the source.

Thank you,

I'm going to try to use it close to the house entry point and see how that goes...... and the reason for the move is ease of access and a more central house location.....

Update: Worked like a charm. I was able to dial in my Downstream levels to 0 dBmV across all channles and Upstream to

41 dBmV, 40 dBmV, and 39 dBmV across the 3 channels.

The amplifier originally took the Downstream levels to about +9, but the adjustment screw really worked and I was able to get it down to an optimal 0 dBmV

Originally, my Upstream levels were around 34-36, which is at the lower end of Comcast's recommended range of 35-49. With some adjusting, I set it at ~40 for the 3 channels and this should keep me in the safe range.

Thank you,
