I am in the middle of building a gaming desktop when an idea hit me to save money and some time. Can I order an 80gb desktop hard drive load windows eight on it then, use a wiped and fully functional laptop hdd with 500gbs for games music and movies?

P.S. The connectors are sata 2 and have four sata slots on my mobo

Yes, you can use a laptop HDD as long as it has the proper connectors, however you will probably want to get a barcket for the 2.5" HDD so it will fit in a 3.5" slot. A 1 Tb HDD is only about $50 though, so that would still be the best option.
