HT Link Frequency higher than NB Frequency?

Currently my mobo is a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 with latest BIOS flashed. I have one 120GB SSD, one 1TB Seagate HDD and one 2TB WD HDD. As of a few days ago, i noticed my HT Link Frequency is set to auto at 2400Mhz. And my NB Frequency is 2000Mhz. Will this cause any issue? I have read that it will cause freezes. Is this affected because i installed a new HDD? The 2TB WD is a new HDD I just installed over a month ago and its detecting bad sectors.

Please advise me on this. Switching on my pc is consuming so much tine compared to 2months ago.

Solution

I think the WD Green HDD is the culprit. Remove it...

That HDD may be slower than the previous one. Your HT Link Frequency should be 2000Mhz, but your NB frequency can go higher. Using two different brand HDDs may be a naive solution but it may be it. What are the specifics on your WD HDD and Seagate HDD?

Oh? Hmm. That is very strange. Will it cause any issue if i adjust the HT Link to be the same as the NB Frequency? About the specifics i am not sure of the seagate one, but for the WD it is a Green 2TB HDD 7200rpm if i am not mistaken. I did not know that a different brand HDD will cause any issue. o_O I thought it should be the same.

My speculation may be flawed but I tend to use the same brand. I think the WD Green series is power saving which is probably why the HT Link Frequency is higher. So if you adjust it, It will be fine.

Alright. I forgot to mention, first of all, my BIOS now loads very slow. And I have adjusted the HT Link Frequency to 2000Mhz, same as the NB Frequency, and now even my Windows is loading super slowly. Is the system accessing my HDDs to boot Windows first before my SSD? Because my SSD is the primary disk for Windows. :\ Uh. did not have any problem until recently when I ran a check now on my 2TB disk that it says there are bad sectors in it. :(

Btw, here is the whole story. I bought a 2TB Green WD HDD, and installed it on my PC. It worked fine, as I use that 2TB Disk for movies and animes. I was watching a series when suddenly my VLC's audio is playing but the screen and time is frozen. I thought it was VLC, as before that i upgraded it to the latest VLC. After awhile it went on and off. Then only I noticed about the HT Link and NB Freq. issue. Will the issue go away if I replace my Seagate 1TB to a WD 1TB drive? Or to another 2TB drive?

Is your computer slower because of adjusting the frequency? or because it just has been. Also, make sure your SSD is first boot priority. Otherwise, it may cause issues.

Worst case senario, replace the WD 2TB with a Seagate 2TB HDD. The WD Green HDDS are very slow. That is probably why your computer is acting slower.

Before I adjusted the speed it was slow, but after adjusting the HT Link Freq it became much slower. And yes, I have checked and double checked my SSD as my first boot priority.

I may have to try that. Maybe you are right. Anyway at times i can hear my 1TB Seagate ticking. Lol. My guess is that its gonna die soon. Oh. Is it okay to by a different disk than the Green version? Say a Blue or Black WD? Because I use that 1TB to game.

Revert it back to 2400Mhz. I do believe that it is meant that way for a reason. Considering your WD Green is a slow HDD. I would replace for WD Blue or even WD Black.

I have reverted it back to Auto, at 2400Mhz. After a restart, the same thing happened. Took much longer now. If it is true that the HDD is causing the problem, is another way to remove the 2TB HDD and make it as an external disk? Will that be a possible solution? That is if the HDS is the cause. I will try removing the 2TB HDD tmr and boot it up and see if its the same. If it is I will get an external casing for the 2TB HDD and will get an extra 2TB HDD Seagate for the almost finished 1TB life span. I am using it for almost 2years. Used to be switched on 24/7. But then i turned if off every morning before work and switch it on when i get back. Will that cause any issues also?

I think the WD Green HDD is the culprit. Remove it and see if it changes. The SSD could also be slower because..A: It sucks or B: You connected them to the wrong sata ports as some may be lower than others and can cause problems.

Hi there. Yes you are right. I have removed my 2TB WD Green HDD and it boots up as fast as it should and has been all the while! My SSD could not be the problem as I have installed it a pretty long time ago. Anyway, the solution to this, is it okay for me to make it to an external disk? And also on another note, is it ok if i used my 1TB Seagate as the Externall HDD instead of my 2TB? And I might get another 2TB then and partition it to 1TB/1TB.
