The i5 4460 is cheaper than the 4690k so that money could be put forward to buying a better keyboard/mouse for my workstation. I occasionally use Adobe Photoshop and sometimes Premier so would it be worth it if I brought a 4690k instead? I understand that the 4690k can be overclocked but is it still worth it if I brought it because I reckon that if I actually NEED to overclock then its probably about time that I buy a new PC. I also tend to have many applications open at the same time but I never game on it.
Also, I just want to confirm that is the i5 4460 compatible with the z97 motherboards (I think it is but I just want confirmation) and I'm curious to know about how often a new computer should be brought. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Get the 4460. If you use lots of applications then you want a SSD and 2x4GB RAM. That's plenty to keep things fast.

If 4460 you can get Z97 or save money and get a H97.

I thought an SSD and 8GB of ram would help keep everything fast which is why I thought that maybe a 4690k is overkill for me (unless I started to game in the future) and thanks for the advice but I'll keep the Z97 motherboard. Thanks for your help.
