Hi,

This is my first build and I have followed online tutorials and the manual. I seem to be running into errors with my build when I am trying to install any OS, I mainly want to install win 8 so ill state the errors i am receiving when I am trying to install it.

What I have tried!!!!!!!!!
First of all, because if these errors I have tried replacing the RAM, HDD and SATA cables. Everything part of the hardware seems to be working.
My MOBO is win8 ready so Im not sure what the problem really is. I updated to BIOS to the latest release and the same errors still apply. I have tried to boot the pc in RAID, IDE and ACHI mood and still no luck. I have reassembled the entire pc, tried every type of OS and Still no luck.

When I start my pc I have only a usb keyboard plugged in and the for 90% of the time the pc freeze and the boot device led stays red until i plug the keyboard and then the pc continues to boot like normal and brings me to the press and key to boot os screen.

The furthest I have gotten with an os installation is with win7, i get to the install page where I can see the hard drive, everything seems to be fine until i click install and I get an error 0x80070057. I have tried to delete the partitions and install the os but still get the same error. All of my hardware is new but because of college I have bought some parts a year ago and recently I have been able to get the rest.

When I try to install fedora I get an error " kernal panic - not syncing: no init found." then the next line reads " CPU: 3 PID: 1 comm: swapper/0 not tainted"
next line " Hardware name: To be filled by O.E.M. To be filled by O>E>M./SABERTOOTH 990FX, BIOS 2501"

Any suggestions of what to try.

My specs,
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card
Asus DVD-E818AAT/BLK/B/GEN DVD/CD Optical Drive
Corsair CX750M PSU
Corsair XMS3 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
I have also tried it with (1 * 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory.
Standard windows keyboard.
Gaming mouse but that wont work because it need to install.

I forgot to mention, that the MOBO seems to be picking up the CPU, when I get into the BIOS it says voltage cpu 1.380v, 5V 4.992V, 3.3V 3.288V, 12V 11.994V. It would be easier if I could upload a pic :/

0x80070057 indicates that the reserved partition is damaged

to fix you have to delete the reserved partition and (create a new one) reformat it
(assuming you don't have a bios setting that is blocking access)
-maybe pull the drive and delete the partitions and reformat on another machine

any idea what size your reserved partition is? or the format you are using?

80% of the time I boot it freezes at the bios screen until I plug the usb keyboard out. I dont have any other device connected to it. The MOBO might not be getting enough power to supply the ports.

are you using a usb connection directly to your motherboard on the back of the machine? make sure it is connected to a usb 1 /2.x connection and not the USB 3.0 connector. then boot to bios and toggle a hardware setting to get the bios to rebuild the mini hardware database it tries to give to windows.
(maybe look for a setting to tell the hardware that you have a plug and play OS so it does not incorrectly detect some hardware and lets windows do it?

@johnbl Hi, I am using the specified usb ports for the usb keyboard and mouse. They are usb 2.0. Even when I have the keyboard plugged into the right port the computer will freeze at the bios screen until I plug the keyboard out. I have tried every usb port as well. Around 20% of the time, the computer will boot fine and I can get in to the bios and navigate around. I have changed most if not all of the bios setting to try to fix the problem. I haven't come across any setting that lets you to rebuild the mini hardware database. I will try and find that setting later today. Thanks for your reply.

I have installed the new PSU it is the same 750W psu. The errors still persist. It must be the MOBO, I might contact the seller to see if they will replace it. Has anyone any other ideas? I have replaced the PSU, HDD and RAM. I am currently running a Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool.

No memory errors showed up during the Windows Memory Diagnostics. I will swap out the mobo and see if that will make a change. Thank you for your help Tradesman1. I found a post with a similar problem to mine with a similar ASUS mobo http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/319135-30-asus-m5a99x-boot-device, I might try to clear the cmos before I replace the mobo.
