I recently bought a Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X OC 2GB with Boost graphics card to replace my GeForce GT 620. I also bought an EVGA 500B PSU to power it.

The specs of my old pc were:
MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine)
GeForce GT 620 → Sapphire R9 270X
AMD A8-5500
4GB RAM
300W PSU → EVGA 500B PSU
Windows 8

Upon starting the computer I get 6 BIOS beeps and nothing is on the screen. I changed back to my old graphics card and it boots normally. I tested it in another computer and it runs fine. After looking it up on the HP website (where the original pc was bought from).
So far I have tried:
-Refreshed Windows but kept the files
-Updated the BIOS
-Tried in legacy mode. I swapped back to the old graphics card and turned legacy mode on then swapped back to the new graphics card. This worked but apparently isn't as safe and reduces the performance of the graphics card. Then I reverted back to UEFI mode and it didn't work again.
-I removed old GeForce drivers and added R9 270X drivers.

None of these worked.

I would like a solution so I don't have to send it back, does anybody have a suggestion?

One of the jobs of the BIOS is to enable a computer's hardware when it's first turned on. And to get the OS started.

UEFI adds in several other steps and enhancements to that startup, which can be buggy or not properly implemented thus breaking the proper startup of hardware devices...

Where did you hear this horsepoo?

You might get longer boot times into windows, that's about it.

You had a solution and screwed yourself... LOL

What does legacy mode do? I used it but I don't understand it.

Basically "legacy" mode turns off all the fancy newer UEFI steps.

thanks for the quick responses. I've changed it back into legacy mode and it works perfectly.
