Hi everyone,

I'm getting the H440 case for my new build and i was concerned that i couldn't control than fan speeds and wasn't happy about them running at maximum speed all the time when i'm aiming for a quiet case.

I've just seen they have new fan controller called the Grid + which allows me to control the fans via there supplied software
http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/148-GRID-digital-fan-controller.html

My question: Can i completely remove the supplied fan hub on the H440 and replace it with the Grid + quite easily?

Solution

Sure you can do that easily. But you should drop this idea. Stock fans shipped with PC Case are normally quiet and don't produce irritating/disturbing noise level.

I have a H440. I gotta say it's pretty quiet with all the fans running at max. In your case, yes you should be able to unplug the fans off the little hub. and plug them into the grid. The hub is secured by 2 screws so you should be able to easily remove it.

Thanks for the replies, i may reconsider getting the hub if the case fans are as quiet as everyone is saying they are, just that i'm specifically looking for quiet or silent operation, something better than if they were in a standard non dampened case, i'm just worried the amount of fans at full speed will negate the noise dampening and be similar to a case with less fans but no noise dampening, i had planned on replacing the back fan with a quieter one though.

Yeah, I see your point. It does bother me, to be honest as I'm really sensitive to noise. It's just too damn expensive to replace all the fans and buy a new fan controller.
The loudest part in my H440 is my Corsair H90 cooler, followed by the back fan. Any 290 or 290X gets super loud in the H440 and completely ruins the whole 'silent' appeal, just by the way. I used one for a while and had to sell it.

I'm using Corsair 760T. There is no as such provision of noise dampening in the case except that hole covers on the top as anti-vibration. I'm using 5 140mm fans and 4 120mm fans. I've enabled SMART mode on fans using Asus FanXpert software. System is near to quiet if not silent. I did not change the stock fans though.

Well i think that's made my mind up to get the fan controller, i'm also getting the Corsair H100i cpu cooler and i'm buying 3 replacement quiet fans to replace the 2 on the H100i and the 1 rear case fan (also because they are going to be visible from the side window so i want some that are both quiet and look better.)

Have you used the the Corsair link software to control your H90? i plan on doing that with my H100i so i can set all my fans to an acceptable level of noise and cooling.

I'm also going with an Nvidia card 780 Ti with ACX cooler so hopefully that doesn't add noise.

I don't think my h90 is compatible with Corsair link, which kinda sucks. I'll buy a new fan for it tho so it should be all good.
The 780ti will be fine :) although the Asus variant is more quiet and runs cooler than the EVGA design, so maybe look into getting that if you can afford it.
I'm not sure where the GRID+ will fit in the H440, as it seems pretty thick and there might not be room behind the motherboard, but I'm not sure.

When are you ordering these parts? Might need your advice on whether or not to buy the Grid+. :)

I may look into that card if it's of similar price, i have heard pretty consistent reviews about the EVGA though,

Well being in the UK i don't think there is a lot of places that stock the Grid + as i think it's still pretty new but i was going to order it from scan.co.uk but they are waiting on a back order of stock so not sure when they'll have it in, was meant to be yesterday. My plan is to order the parts this week so they arrive by weekend then i'll start putting it all together, and it may have to go somewhere else in the case like you say as there isn't a lot of room behind the motherboard, i'm sure i can put it somewhere else out of the way.

I got my H440 Wednesday and installed it last night. Noise is not an issue. Im probably going to unplug them from the hub and into the MOBO because I want the sytem to control them. However, at full speed they are pretty quiet.

I believe that would be helpful for OP.

Is this a fact?? I got a Sapphire r9 290 tri-x oc it seems to be extremely silence in my current case but I am thinking on going to this NZXT H440, Will it be super loud for sure?
