I have an Asus X202E Windows 8 Laptop that doesn't come with a Boot disk or OS on Disk.

It won't boot, it has the error "the boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors".

I have Ubuntu on a USB stick and I've booted in to that but I can't browse to my C or D drive, which makes me suspect that there is a HDD failure.

I just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for Anthony I can try to resolve it or even better diagnose it?

Thanks

Remove your hard drive and connect it to another computer with a USB adapter and bring up Disk Management. The odds are that the hard drive has failed, which is why your laptop won't boot and you can't see the HDD when you boot with Linux.

Thank you very much for the suggestion.

I wasn't aware I could purchase Sata-to-USB but I've just bought one and I'll try it out.

I very much appreciate you taking the time to help.

Many thanks

They're very handy things to have! I can't tell you the number of times I've had to remove someone's virus-infected HDD, connect it to my computer with one of those adapters, and run Norton Antivirus to clean it. So far it's worked every time.
