New pc gamer, looking to buy cheap monitor gtx 650, what resolution/aspect ratio?

Hey guys, I am new to pc gaming and have been playing on my 40" Sony Bravia. Not only is this TV much weaker from when i bought it years ago, there isn't any compatibility with the tv and desktop. I could get by playing Civ 5, Outlast, and Rust, but when I play a game like Skyrim, forget about it. I am not one to be too fussy about graphics (playing console all my life so i am use to low graphics lol) but when I started playing Skyrim I soon had to stop because the lines and edges were disgusting. I have a GTX 650 which I know isn't great but I had a look at the compatibility list with games and I was very satisfied with what it said. Skyrim can be played on ultra along with a few other great games. My price range is up to 150$, i know thats cheap but 1 I am broke, and 2 i am new to gaming with pc so i do not feel it is needed to go all out yet. A so so monitor paired with a decent pc rig. My question is resolution, 1920 1080? Lower? Which brands can i trust. I am looking at monitors that are on sale now at Best Buy and Wal Mart. This is prob a huge noob question, but i would appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot guys.

16:9 is the most accepted ratio for gaming and most activities.
In some rare cases, there are a few people who prefer 16:10, but that's because thy use the monitor vertically (so it's actually 10:16) to use word documents and such.
Some other people like 21:9 ultra-wide monitors, because they like to watch movies in that format, but that's also extremely rare.

In almost every situation, 16:9 would be perfect.
And yes, even the best products have some issues sometimes, and other times there are people who just want to write a bad review about something... If the majority of buyers give it a good rating, the it will most likely be a good product!

I don't know if my reply went through so here we go again. Thanks for the time to answer. I am looking at a Asus 21.5" ips led 1920x1080 for 140$. Brings up the question of led or lcd.

Actually, all LED monitors are LCD, but not all LCD are LED.

LCD is the tipe of display, while LED is the type of backlight. Nowadays most monitors are LED, and it has better contrast, less power consumption, and last for longer.
LED is a superior technology, so you should choose that.
IPS is a very good choice, as it has better colors and viewing angles.

I would recommenda 24'' one, I've had both 21 and 24, and found that the size of stuff on 21'' 1080p is a bit small, while on 24'' is easier to read and see. That depends on your desk and distance to your monitor, though.

This most def helps. Thanks again. I just get nervous before making a decision like this. Even more so when going through a third party such as Best Buy. It does say it come with a 3 year part warrenty so if something happens I am assuming i can send it to them and they will fix the problems. I was told by many to look at reviews for the product, it has something like 64% five star and like 26% four star and so on. The negative reviews make me nervous, but i will assume and hope that even the best products can have some issues, even brand new. Is the aspect ratio of 16:9 ok? Thanks again. Oh and my set up would have me close to the monitor and my eye sight at the moment is great.
