My Current Build:

MoBo: Asus Sabertooth Z77
Case: Thermaltake Chaser Mark I
CPU: Intel core i7 2700k (stock cooler)
RAM: 16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
GFX: 2 Radeon HD 6950's crossfired
PSU: Thermaltake SMART M Series 850w bronze cert.
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty
SSD: 120GB Mushkin Enhanced Chronos
HD: 3TB Western Digital Green
My monitor is my tv 46" Samsung 1080p

I was wondering what I should upgrade my graphics cards too or if I should at this time at all. In the near future I want to upgrade my tv to a 4K resolution for future 4K gaming and everything else 4K has to offer. I would love to make games in the future as well. So as of now im only gonna be running games at 1080p.

I was checking out the new R9 series for AMD. Specifically Sapphire's Vapor-X Tri-X R9 290 and crossfiring them. I don't want to rule out Nvidia or prefer AMD over them but I have only had Sapphire cards and it goes with the aesthetics of the build. I call it Sapphire Beast and It is black and blue. I would like to stick to that while increasing performance.

I know the reasons why crossfire gets hated on but I can deal with it if its solved In the future. I never had problems with my crossfire or my 6950's.

Also, in the near future I would like to water cool my build. I prefer to build my water cooling rather than by closed loops. It would be my first time doing it but I have a knack for it and have been researching it for months.

First on my list is the graphics cards though. So the price for the cards I was looking at is 458 each so id like to keep the price range around there. I need future proofing for 4K and the best performance to replace my crossfire setup while keeping the aesthetics in tact.

Thanks for the Help!

i had 2 tri x 290s in crossfire. Which is basically the vapor x, just that the vapor x has better cooling. I used them to play games at the highest settings with 3 monitors. Everything worked beautifully except for crysis 3, but that's normal. You wont be disappointed. As for 4k, Idk, in my opinion unless it's on a massive tv, I see no difference.

Also the advice I was given, if you are serious about water cooling, buy reference cards. Not only does it save money but it's the only way to guarantee compatibility with waterblocks.

I noticed that while researching. I did find a waterblock specifically for a vapor x 290x. I would assume it would be compatible with the 290 being virtually identical but you never know. The reason I chose the vapor x was due to the high temps on the rest of the R9 series and the look was exactly what I wanted.

Oh it's a great choice, I was planning on getting 2 vapor x 290x's, until I decided to use water, just something to keep in mind is all.
