Help!

I am attempting to load some software onto a relative's computer, but when I brought the computer home and connected it via ethernet cable, I cannot connect to any websites. I was able to run, download, and install windows updates. I was reading through the forums and was able to successfully ping several different websites, but neither IE or Firefox will load anything. This is a Windows 7 computer. I really need some help!

Thanks in advance!

Do you see any specific error messages that might help isolate the problem?

I would suggest going to the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options.

Choose the "Connections" tab, then select "LAN Settings".

Choose "Automatically detect settings", and uncheck "Use a proxy server" (if checked).
