New Build: MSI Z87-G45, Intel i7-4770k Processor

Dear Community,

I currently have a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard, an Intel i7-4770k processor, Fractal Design Define R4 Silent Black Pearl Case and a EVGA 650W SuperNOVA NEX650G 80+ Gold Fully Modular Power Supply.

Would anybody assist me regarding my next steps, below is a list of what I have chosen to purchase next towards this machine; if anybody knows of any issues with any of the components I would be grateful if you let me know.

Memory: G.Skill 32GB DDR3 2400MHz TridentX Memory
Mouse: QPAD 5K Pro Gaming Laser Mouse
Keyboard: COOLER MASTER CM STORM QUICK FIRE ULTIMATE - MECHANICAL GAMING KEYBOARD BROWN CHERRY MX SWITCHES FULL LED BACKLIT
Cooling:
Corsair Hydro Series H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair AF120 LED Purple Quiet Edition High Airflow 120mm Fan (Perhaps not with an LED, it's just to make the wife smile)
Graphics:
EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX 6GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card

And just general storage devices, probably 6GBPS??? Been a few years since I built a PC last.

Thanks!

  1. Dont get 32GB of RAM, 16GB is more than enough for gaming and light video editing.

For storage, if you want an SSD, have a look at the Samsung 840 EVO SSDs. Most HDD now will be 6gbps, so that isnt a big issue.
  2. Thanks bradsctt, so there will be absolutely no advantages to having 32GB DDR3? I will be using virtual machines and hooking them up to different monitors, using UNITY 3D, Blender, etc. The wife wants to do some illustrator... which was really worth mentioning beforehand. I will check out the SSDs, but the board has an m-Sata also; I'm a bit behind the times but are most HDD really 6gbps, because I have to explicitly search for them on ebuyer?

Oh, if you are doing that sort of thing, then 32GB may be worth the upgrade - as you said, you should have mentioned beforehand.

Most HDD are, SATA 3 has been out for a while.

    An example drive could be:
    WD Blue 1TB
