Hi all,
Need some help here.

I'm not a big computer pro. Assempled a new computer for my DAW (Digital audio workstation).

i7 3770K 3.5Ghz,
MSI B75A-G43,
8GB RAM 1600 8-8-8-24 G.SKILL,
GeForce GTX 750 Ti,
Win 7 32 Bit.

Not the newest motherboard but I need that one since it natively supports my nice and special PCI audio cards.

PassMark Performance Test 8.0 shows my CPU score as 7383 where as it should be over 10,000. My total score is 3631.7 .

Latest Bios version. Bios shows 8-8-8-24 timings for the RAM and 800 Mhz and 3500 Mhz for CPU. Intel Turbo enabled. Power profile in WIN 7 set to High Performance. Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool passes all tests. Temperature during the CPU test sometimes maxes at 68 C.

What's going On? I need the highest CPU performance for tons or audio plugins and synths. Please, advice.

I'm not sure what it could be, but I just thought I would let you know that if you have 8GB of RAM, you will want a 64-Bit Version of Windows.

Have you dabbled in underclocking/overclocking at all? If so, could you write down your setttings, then reset the CMOS and re-try the benchmark?

I can't use 64 bit OS for now since there are no 64 bit drivers for my PCI sound cards.

Yes, I played with the overclocking but never actually overclocked anything. Whatever i changes did improve the score but slightly. Motherboard came with the latest BIOS. Could it be that the latest one bios is causing that?

BTW, cpu-z shows bus speed to be varied from 99.76 to 99.8 Mhz. Does that mean anything?

I just did reset the CMOS but got the same CPU score: 7320... Any thoughts?

Can it be the PSU? It's Seasonic 550W from my old computer, but it has all the necessary connectors.

Should I RMA the motherboard? It's no longer available in US so I bought it from Italy, seems brand new... Manufacturer likely won't replace this motherboard since it's discontinued, correct? Or, should I RMA the CPU?

Most defiantly either the motherboard or the CPU.

Your CPU is running very slow right now. If you have a friend who has the same socket CPU/Motherboard, see if they would be willing to swap to test and find out if your CPU is the problem or the motherboard. If you don't, try local computer repair shops, and explain the situation briefly to them(Avoid the geek squad at Best Buy, they have a reputation of making things worse).

Your PSU should be fine, as long as it is still putting out power it shouldn't be the one at fault.

Thank you for your help. I have only one potential friend who may have the stuff, will ask him. But let me ask you, so you're saying that all the numbers shown (frequency, number of cores etc) may be correct but the CPU may still be runnign slow? That's strange.... What is the correct CPU voltage? It's set on Auto but maybe that's too low?

Is it normal for Bus Speed to vary within 99.76 to 99.8 Mhz?

Another strange thing is that according to MSI website I have the latest bios. But when I tried to run the Live Update from bios, it said there's a newer version available. It downloaded it but failed to install, giving me some DOS screen. Since then I was unable to run that Live Update: it gives me black screen. How do I make Live Update work? And why it shows versions of bios that are not on the website?

Code:

Bus 100 Mhz, multiplier is 35 x. Is that wrong? I think it says next to reverence scores for the same CPU that bus is 100 x 35. Performance Test shows my CPU clock as 3500 and cpu-z shows around 3800 (I guess for turbo?).

CPU benchmark in 64 bit Win 7 shows aprox 9900. Looks like a decent number. So, ThatGmodGuy, you were right. Still the average is somewhat higher though (10300 or so). Is that due to low RAM (8gb)? Is there a way to know whether those numbers are from overclocked machines?

Synthetic benchmarks show that after 6-8GB of RAM, there in very little to no performance difference in games and benchmarks. Since you have 32 Bit windows, your system can only address 4GB of RAM, so that *may* help if you were to dual boot perhaps.

I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess, I would say that those stats are taken from OC'd CPU's.

Thanks. I just want to make sure you understood that I tested it in 64 bit Win 7 and results were decent but still lower than average, so I can see that there's a big difference between 32 and in 64 bit in this particular test.
