First, I LOVE my eMachines! Had it nearly a decade and it's all that I ever wanted or needed in a computer! The problem is whenever I have tried to add RAM, it will take ages to boot! The specs are:
a.) eMachines T2825
b.) speed: 2800+
c.) ram: 512MB
I have tried a gazillion types of RAM, from swapping the single 512 card with a 1028 card, to adding another 512 card, to removing the 512 card and replacing with 2 new 512 cards, using major famous brands (like Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, etc.).

However, any additional ram (more than 512MB) changes the normal boot speed from less than a minute to OVER FIVE MINUTES!

Suggestions please?

p.s. Again, I love eMachines, I totally recommend them, and I am sure the reason for the RAM problem is that when I got my eMachines, I tinkered the heck out of it, and I probably mucked something up. But that was almost a decade ago, and can't remember...

Did you do the Crucial memory compatibility check? It will tell you exactly what memory is needed. I can't remember the last time I even saw a 512 memory chip.

Link to Crucial site for details on the type of RAM you need: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-memory-for/eMa...
Memory specs:
1GB stick: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 •
512MB stick: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64 •
You can use those specs to shop for RAM (you don't have to buy from Crucial, I only added the link as a reference)
