I replaced my Time Warner modem router with a new SB 6141 Modem. I also picked up a Netgear R 7000 router. I called to get my modem activated and while I waited I hooked up my old Lynksys E4200 router until my connection was set up. My modem was activated and all worked fine. I have 2 wired PC's and an Ipad that I use the most. I then went to install the R-7000. Hooked it up and went to my computer to set it up and the connection kept dropping. I managed to upgrade the firmware and hoped all would be good. The wireless worked great but by pc that was hard wired still disconnected off and on. I had read some reviews and see that the r7000 had some issues with disconnecting but did not thing it would be like every minute or so. I decided to box it up and take it back. I exchanged it for the Asus RT-68R to see how that would go. Hooked it up and I had the same problem. My wireless worked great and my wife's computer had no disconnecting problems at all. I played with it and could not get my computer to keep the connection. I returned that router as well. I am back to my E4200 and all is working. I am hoping someone has an idea of what could be the issue with my PC. I am running Windows 8.1. Any help would be appreciated. .

Hey Gravy88, have you tried a different cable, updating the nic driver? Maybe you have an outdated nic driver and cant match your new router.

Thanks for the reply,
I have tried new cables. the only thing i can't check on the cables is the one running in the wall. I am not sure if it matters but when i have the Linksys router hooked up my pc says I am on network 2 and when i hook up the other router it says network 4. When i installed the Netgear router i installed the Net Genie app. I have since removed it but thought there may be somthing messing it up.

I did download the most recent driver for the nic. I have never had this issue. I don't know if it pays to re install windows or not. I am not a network expert but this should be pretty simple.

Hey Gravy, have you tried getting your wife into the wired network and see it the network drops on her machine?

Her computer is connected to the network and is on almost all the time. she had no dropouts. That is the strange part. this is why i thought it may be a Windows issue. I gues I am going to have to stay with the old router until i can figure this out. Maybe i will just re install Windows 8 and see what happens.
Thanks again for your help. if you have any other ides i am willing to listen. .
