I am currently using AVERTV CAPTUREHD (H727) , however it supports only up to 720p resolution. The output I get from my hd tv set top box is 1080i .

Is there any tv tuner with 1080p available which can convert the 1080i to 1080p ?

I think you have the wrong TV Tuner model number. A Google search for "AV727" mostly results in Avianca Flight 727.
Your set top box may be capable of outputting 1080i content, but that's going to depends on which output you're using. The analog, coaxial output (which is what you're likely using to connect to your TV Tuner card) is likely only outputting 480i.
Since you do require a set top box from your cable company, I'd recommend looking into a cablecard solution to replace your current TV Tuner card AND set top box. Something like the Ceton InfiniTV6 or SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime.

The TV tuner is AVERTV CAPTUREHD (H727) and I have connected the set top box using the hdmi cable. (using the hdmi ports provided both on the set up box and tv tuner card.)

Ok. If you're using the HDMI output of the set top box and the HDMI input of the capture card, then you need to verify the content is actually 1080i. Not sure how things work across the pond, but here, I have three channel tiers from my cable company. Channels 2-199 (or so) are all standard definition channels (480i). Channels 200-799 and 800 and up are all HD 720p and 1080i respectively. My TV is only 720p but my projector is 1080p. My HTPC's graphics card should be upscaling my 1080i input from the set top box to a 1080p display for my projector.

The content is 1080i , I have verified it . When I connect the set top box directly to the monitor I dont get any frame drops even on 1080i setting , however when i connect it through my tv tuner card , the overall video is not as smooth on 1080i as compared to 720p.

Not sure what the issue is here. That set up is more than enough to handle HD content with ease. I'm going to assume you've been through the whole uninstall and reinstall of drivers. The only other thing that sticks in my craw would be the amount of RAM you have installed. Just as a test, remove all but one of your RAM modules and see if you still have the issue.

There is nothing of this sort. I can play all video content and games on 1080p . The tv tuner supports resolution upto 1080i not 1080p. As a result the 720p is much smoother.1080i does not get converted to 1080p.

I don't know if it's still an issue these days, but a few years back, having too much RAM installed would actually cause system slow downs. That's why I wanted you to test your system with only 1 RAM module installed.

Also, please verify that you have the full AMD Catalyst Software package installed and not just the graphic card drivers.

Sorry to say, I am out of ideas. I asked about the Catalyst Control Center program because it should have included AMD's Advanced Video In Video Out (AVIVO) program which *should* be handling the upscaling and smooth playback of your video. I've got nothing else at this time.

Sorry
