I have:
ASUS Z97-DELUXE(NFC & WLC) LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard and
Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646I74790K

I was going to get one at Amazon that used HDMI but on back on MB it has a plug called a DisplayPort. So I'm thinking I should get that type of monitor. Can anyone make suggestion?

These new monitor connections are new to me. I don't want to spend a lot.

Yes it should work either way as long there is a connector.
Are you getting a graphic card? If so, you would plug the monitor cables to the graphic card, not the motherboard.

No, I'm using the graphic technology that comes with the Intel processor (i think) or maybe its in the motherboard. I don't know but no extra graphic card.

Was looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Monitor-VE248Q-24-Inch-Scree...

But its bigger than i need. I have to have room on my desk to see my clients.

Yes it will work. Since it is a 1080p monitor and that is it highest resolution, using a HDMI cable or a Displayport would be fine.
Unfortunately, they don't give you a direct HDMI to HDMI cable nor a Displayport to Displayport cable. You would need to get one separately.

Please explain what is difference between DisplayPort connection and HDMI (or USB) Why would you want one over the other?
For example this one is less and smaller : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BZNDOO/ref=ox_sc_a... but doesn't have displayport.

What other items might I need that DisplayPort for?

At 1080p, they are the same really. Displayport can support higher resolution than 1080p but since your monitor is 1080p either cable will work.
Not all monitors have Displayport or HDMI.
For that monitor you inked, a HDMI cable would be fine.

For DisplayPort you only need the cable. It just a different version of connector for monitors.
