heres my issue. First I should mention that the motherboard is a gigabyte 78LMT-usb 3.0 and the case is a CM storm stryker. I can only get sound from my speakers when I have the headphones half way into the headphone jack. The headphones work great when fully plugged in, but if I want to hear my speakers, I can only get sound when the headphones are half way in. Also, ive installed the latest usb 3.0 drivers ( i think ) and I still cant use my 3.0 plugs. Any help is appreciated

Your headphone jack (with headphones fully plugged in) should disable the speaker sound (there should be a connector from the case to the mobo for this, and if you remove the connector for the disable speaker function, that will not happen.

For the USB-3, you need a USB-3 cable, usb-3 port and usb-3 device - if you have spares of each, try the spares as well to verify that it isn't the device or cable.

is there a realtek audio controller in the bottom right of the taskbar? Sometimes you can go in there and control what takes control when things are plugged in

The board has the via audio chipset and by default it disables the rear ports when you plug something into the front ports, install the software for it if not already done and then disable front/headphone jack detection in the software. This will keep all ports live.

There are only two usb3 ports on the back of the motherboard and one usb3 pinout header for the inside of the case. You might have to fight getting the drivers installed properly or do it manually through device manager.
