ok so i have an asus rt-n66r and a netgear n600 wndr3400 .. ( asus is main router)

I want to setup the netgear on the network and put it upstairs to extend the wireless network, hopefully more effectively, and i want it wirelessly connected.

They both have WPS buttons on them but I'm unsure how to actually get them in sync... I think i may have done it but the netgear doesnt have an internet connection when i connect a device to it.

Any help appreciated

The router needs to have a special feature called client-mode to allow this. It generally will have a very clear setting in the manual when you can run the device as a wireless repeater. This router does not have that feature you would have to load third party firmware.

Even after you get the third party firmware you NEVER want to use WPS. You need to disable this as soon as you can. It can hacked pretty simply and it defeats any passwords you use to encrypt and once someone get the key number they have it and you have no ability to change it. Many routers disable this option by default but if it is not you need to disable it.

You need to manually setup a repeater anyway very few can be setup with WPS even if you wanted to do it that way.

Be very careful on the terminology.....I know the vendors make it tough.

If you connect the devices together via a cable you can use the netgear as a AP to connect to the other end devices. Any router can be used as AP it does not need to have that feature even though I think your netgear does.

maybe my terminology is off so im making it confusing... basically my asus router is downstairs connected to modem, i want to put my netgear wndr3400 upstairs and have it wirelessly pick up the wifi signal from the downstairs router... i then want to wire my PC into the upstairs router in order to get internet. Is this possible? thanks
