Hey guys, I'm building a gaming rig right now, picking parts at least, and have recently come across a serious question.

I am currently set on a gtx 780. I don't want anything worse, and I don't want anything more expensive.

I have recently noticed that the gtx 880 will be coming out in September.

My question is.... do I buy the 780 at the end of the month (August), or is it worth waiting even longer (will be a struggle) for the 880 to come out. Is it worth it? Improved significantly?

I would even consider buying something like a 750 ti right now to hold me over until the 880 comes out if it is actually worth it.

I'd buy now, when the card first comes out, it will most likely cost a-lot more, but if money isn't the issue then go ahead.

Its supposed to have a MSRP of around $400-$500 dollars.
I'd honestly buy the card when it comes out.

the rumored prices for the 880 are very intriguing I might wait.

On the other hand ignoring the 880 I would personally get a 290 instead of a 780, cheaper and better a lot of the time. As long as you dont mind a bit more heat and power draw. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1036

I prefer the 780.
Quieter, cooler, more space to overclock it.
I mean AMD cards are fine when they come with good coolers.
Problem is, those coolers only bring them down enough to run cooler. The same cooler will do more work and produce more noise on an AMD than an NVidia.

if you can tolerate waiting it might be a good choice. although i personally do not think the 800 series will be on shelves this year... thats me taking what ive seen historically and i dont believe rumors that much. one thing is for sure... the longer you wait... the more horsepower you will get for your money as prices always come down. in september nvidia may announce the january release of 800 series and immediately drop $50-75 off their 700 series prices to move stock in preparation.
