Edit:

Fixed the numbering

I am building a computer for the first time and would appreciate any help with it. Here's my projected build:

Optical drive: Asus drw-24b1st/blk/b/as black
Case: Fractal design define r4 black pearl
Hard drive 1: Samsung 840 Evo mz-7te250bw 250 gb SSD
Hard drive 2: Wd black series wd2003fzex 2tb HDD
Power supply: Corsair jz series hx850w gold (850 w)
Ram: Corsair vengeance pro 16gb 1833mhz
Motherboard: Asus Maximus vii hero
CPU: Intel i7-4790k
Surge protecter: Apc p8vt3 surge protector

Parts I'm planning on getting (not out yet)

Gtx 880
Benq xl2720g monitor

So I have a couple questions

1. Do I have all the parts I need
2. Are the parts I have the best options
3. Are the selected parts compatible/ necessary (assume gtx 780 ti, unless you have info on gtx 880)
4. What's cables, cords and other things do I need to actually build it
5. Do you have any recommendations for keyboard and mouse (preferably not extremely expensive unless you can justify it)
6. Do you have any links to good tutorials
7. Do you have any recommendations on a site to buy them (I'm currently using newegg, but I don't know if other sites give better discounts)
8. Will the case fans keep the parts cool enough if I oc? (Or even just with normal parts)

Well that was more than a couple, but thanks for your time and knowledge

1. Yep.

2. No. I could go into depth but you could either wait for x99 systems and DDR4 to come out or choose x79. Better expandibility due to more PCIE lanes. On z97 the max full speed(16x) you can have is one. x79 can have 2 full speed lanes. My specific mobo(x79, specifics in sig) mobo can do 4 full speed lanes. So in the future when an 880 isnt enough anymore you can throw in a second and be fine. PSU could be better too. Seasonic and XFX are great brands.

2(again I guess/ look at your numbering). As far as my knowledge reaches yes.

3. You really shouldnt need anything except a monitor video cable. PSU will come with a power cord.

4. Corsair K70 if on a budget for keyboard. I just use a cheap full size wireless mouse as i never would use buttons on a gaming one and could never justify wasting the money.

5. Tutorials on building? Look up LinusTechTips on youtube. Pick any of his 45-60 minute videos. Hes a genius.

6. Microcenter in store(they dont ship CPU's) for the CPU/MOBO as they dont upcharge on Intel and often offer free or extremely discounted mobos in a combo deal. Look up their deals on their website. Everything else either Newegg or TigerDirect or NCIX.

7. Always(and i mean always) upgrade case fans or at least add in more. For fans I am a diehard COUGAR enthusiast. But get an aftermarket CPU cooler for cheap. This one if you have the room: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103179&cm_re=seidon-_-35-103-179-_-Product

Any more questions just ask. PM or on here.

Looks great! You don't need an i7 and 16GB of RAM for gaming, though. You could save a lot of money there and it wouldn't hurt performance at all.
Decent PSU, but this is better http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20750xr
You can use PC Part Picker to find the best prices. :)

1. Yes
2. No
2 (again). No, see above
3. The case and PSU comes with everything you need.
4. Ducky Mechanical keyboards are great, fairly expensive but mechanical keyboards are well worth it. As for mouse, Mionix Avior or Naos 7000 is the best out right now depending on what style you'd like. (You could spend extra here with the money you save with an i5 4690K and 8GB of RAM).
5. Give me a second :)
6. PC Part Picker will give you your best options.
7. Yep! You can always add more later, too.

Edit:

I took a look at the i5, and it did seem like there wasn't that much of a performance gain vs the i7, but I'm probably not going to replace this for 7-8 years, and by that time games might use hyperthreading, so I'm going to dish out the extra hundred for future proofing. Thanks for the advice though.

Thanks guys, my bad on the numbering. I would have changed it but we had a mini 30 min power outage (hooray) and I couldn't. Do you have any release date for x99? If it's within a couple months id probably wait otherwise I would upgrade later. Last time I looked at the prices, the additional 8gb of ram were not that much more over just 8gb so I might as well spend the money. I'll look at that i5. Thanks again for your help.

If price isnt an issue then x99 is supposed to be out Q3 so in a month or so. Itll be expensive though. Wait for the 800 series though. Huge improvement over the 700 series.

Well, my current mobo in this build is 200 and the i7 is 350 so I can spend 550 or so, would this cover it? Btw, does only the motherboard mater with ddr4 or does the cup need comparability too

CPU also matters as well as mobo. And to be honest im not sure. Youd have to get new RAM, a new CPU, and a new mobo for less than $550. Ram prices have been told to stay the same so $100 for 8gb. Youre down to $450 now. $300 will be the cheapest mobo and i doubt any Broadwell CPU will be $150.

Going to x79 would be your best bet. $300 CPU $300 mobo and the ram is still DDR3. you can run 2 GPU's off of the board both at full speed.

According to the internet it will be a while before ddr4 makes a difference so I'll just go x79. Any mobo recommendations? Also, would going windows 7 instead of 8.1 cause any compatibility issues? I much prefer 7 but 8.1 is obviously newer

Asrock x79 eXtreme11. But it's $600 alone. I would suggest any Asrock boards as well as the Asus RIVE Black($500). I suggest the i7-4820k as you are on a budget but you could also settle for the i7-3820.

Edit

Well I've seen rumors that x99 is being announced in a week or so, might as well wait until it's at least announced to decide

Unfortunately right now I can only spend the 550 combined for a mobo and CPU. I'm already $200 over budget, and I can't spend a ton of money on a mobo (unless I downgrade to a lower graphics card) you have any cheaper recommendations?
