It works just fine. itll be normal PCIE 2.0 speeds.

Yes it will be fine. I'm using R9 270 as PCIe 3.0 card on my old MSI mobo that is PCIe 2.0. It works fine, since the graphics card itself cannot even saturate the bus lanes on a 2.0. Not even a R9 290x will use the full bandwidth of a 3.0.
