Crossfire - Drivers 14.4 - Only DX11 games ?

With the exception of Civilization 5, games only seem to work if I have Crossfire disabled.

I have the following setup
Motherboard: Asus 990FX Pro 2.0
Power Supply: Cooler Master 700W
CPU : AM3 Sempron 145
GPUs: 2 x Radeon HD 6790 in CrossfireX
RAM: 2x2GB AMD(Patriot) DDR3 1600MHz
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Drivers : Catalyst 14.4

I tried with the beta drivers 14.7, but it was the same. Installing the cards in other PCIE slots didn't help either.

Is there a troubleshooting guide or tool for Crossfire?

I am having trouble with :

Dishonored (DX9)
Alpha Protocol (DX9)
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction (DX9)
Amnesia (DX9)

Frustration is preventing me from trying any more games on the computer!

The games start with the intro engine/developer/producer videos, but I never get into the game menus. Sometimes, the menu starts with the music, but everything freezes. I have to start the Task Manager to end the process to return to Windows.

No luck with updating the DirectX drivers.

I can play Bioshock Infinite (with DX11 and crossfire) on very high graphic settings for a 1600x900 screen.

It would be nice to not have to disable Crossfire whenever playing the other games that I mentioned above - I now assume that Crossfire only works with DX10 and DX11, however does not automatically disable for DX9 software.
