I'm in the market for a new graphics card as I bought a 270X and have gotten tired of lower frame rates on higher end games. I was anticipating the 800 series to be announced at gamescom but sadly it did not. Should I wait to see if they still do get released in September like they are speculated to or should I just go ahead and get a 770.

My specs are:
I5 3570K
EVGA G1 Gold certified 750W power supply
Gigabyte motherboard GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
16GB of patriot ram 1600 MHz
120GB V300
1TB barrucuda
ATM at 5670 (270X is being rma'd due to issues with bios update)

Yeah I understand that but I want to test the waters with an nvidia card plus where I live the 770 is less expensive then the R9 290 by a good margin.

Sounds like you've already done your homework and just need a little help with the finer points: 1. Are you willing to spend more money for the 800 series? 2. Can you wait until it comes out? 3. Is waiting worth your loss in performance in the meantime?

Those are your basic questions. Here's my thoughts: If you're willing to spend the extra money for the 800 series, then you need to wait. That way you'll experience a brand-new card, be ahead of the curve, and won't have anything to regret by buying a 770 now and watching the 800 series come out in a month or two.

My two cents end here.
