Samsung 840 EVO slow boot time

Hey i just bought a samsung 840 evo and i just did a fresh install on the ssd (with ahci active not ide) i opened the samsung magician and it says ahci is activated i have checked command prompt and says trim is active so looks like everything went smooth but i feel my start up time is too long and wondering whats going on or if its normal which i dont think it is.

boot up time: between 36 - 38 seconds
shutdown: between 6- 8 seconds

im happy with the shutdown time thats great just wondering whats happening with the start up time.

i have gone into bios and the ssd is set as first boot drive.

i have no programs that start up when it boots and i have also disconnected the cd drive and hhd to see if it booted any quicker but no difference?

just wondering if anyone has any ideas to speed up start up time or is that the time i should be expecting?

i7 950
Asrock extreme x58 motherboard (sata 2)
6gb ddr3 kingston ram
radeon hd5770
1tb seagate hdd
samsung 840 evo


also i have just noticed instead of having just Local Disk (C) (120gb ssd) and Local Disk (F) (1tb hdd) i have two others System Reserved (D) & (E) any idea why?

Theres 2 pictures to give you a idea as im getting a error with drive d in samsung magician when performing performance benchmark?

also are those speeds read and write good for sata 2?

Get rid of Samsung Magician. I've been using an 840 pro for a few months now and had boot times of less than 15 seconds. I installed Magician and the boot time went up to 40 seconds, possibly a minute. I uninstalled Magician and the boot time went back to less than 15.

I think it normal if you measure from pressing the button. If you measure from once the Window Logo has started, I believe it is shorter than a hard drive. You motherboard runs tests upon boot up which does slow the boot up. The SSD has no influence really in this except when the OS is being loaded.

Speed is good for Sata 2 but is saturated. It is still faster than using a hard drive.
If you cloned your OS to the SSD, this may have been one issue. I prefer a fresh install on the SSD. You can try to extend the unallocated space to your C partition. Leave the System reserved partition alone.
Samsung Magician shouldn't really run test on the D partition.
My best advice is to reformat and reinstalling, not clone your OS.

Time how long the windows boot up is (when the windows logo starts to appear) because that part of the boot up (the OS boot up) is what the SSD influences. Some BIOSs have a really long post time which the SSD has no influence on.

yeah well my dad just got new computers for work sata 3 motherboard and 256gb ssd (not sure which brand) but he loads into windows from pressing the power button in like 14 seconds but i also noticed that when we started the computer it went straight to the windows logo there was no motherboard bios screen before like i have. also noticed that his windows logo does not even fully appear then loads straight in where mine loads the windows logo then goes into windows. is this because he has a newer motherboard then me that it just has quicker boot options like no motherboard screen before windows or something? its weird because my computer shuts down in like 7 seconds and his takes like 12 but mine boots in 38 seconds and his in 12 surely something funny is going on???

when you say the speed is good for sata 2 but saturated what do you mean?

the weird thing is when i installed the OS to the ssd it was the only storage device connected and i formnatted my 1tb hdd that previously had windows on it then re connected the hdd once the operating system was installed. now these 2 system reserved folders are causing me headaches when benchmarking my ssd through samsung magician. im happy(not really) to do another fresh install (will be 3rd this week) if i can work out how to do it without getting these two system reserved drives and also work out what is going on with my boot time because i don't want to do another fresh install to still have those bloody folders and not know if the boot time speed is correct.

alright well i played around with disk management abit and got rid of one of the system reserved folders.

but from my understanding i shouldn't be able to see the system reserved under my computer only in disk management also it shouldn't have its own letter as a drive am i correct? i should only be seeing local disk drive C and my 1tb hdd as Disk F?

anyways looks like ill have to do another install because i am having problems with windows updates, i need to get rid of that system reserved drive D because its causing hassles in samsung magician because its scanning drive d aswel and saying it does not have enough space.

hopefully i can get some of this solved before i do another fresh install so i don't encounter these same annoying problems.

if you look i have configure sata2 as AHCI and also eSATA2 Operation mode AHCI should those both be set to AHCI they were both previously IDE or should one be AHCI and other IDE? wondering if this is causing some of the problems.

When you install Windows on the SSD, did you make sure that is the only drive plugged in?
The SSD read and write speed can be faster if using sata 3.
Do you have the same OS as your father's?
Window 8 does boot faster than Window 7.
Setting to AHCI is correct. the eSATA2 shouldn't' make a difference since you're not using it.

yes when i installed windows the ssd was the only device connected which is why i cant work out why i had 2 system reserved drives. but i formatted the hdd through disk management so now all i can see is drive F (1tb hdd), C Drive (111gb ssd) and D drive which is system reserved. should the system system reserve be showing up as a drive in my computer?

also yes mine and my fathers computers are both running windows 7.

so when i do the fresh install of windows on the ssd again i make sure that my 1tb hdd is formatted(which it has) then disconnect the 1tb hdd and cd drive and start the windows install now when i get to the partition bit should i delete all the partitions that are already there so i have 1 big partition of un allocated space then start a new partition? i should then have Disk 0 Partition 1 System Reserved and Disk 0 Partition 2 Primary i then format the primary partition and that should solve my problem of the system reserved showing up as a disk in my computer and Samsung magician do you think?

also once i have done this i am almost certain that it wont change my boot up times of 38 seconds? when my fathers is about 12 seconds i have already contacted Samsung and awaiting a call back to see what they have to say and if its normal.

yeah well they cant really pin point it but yeah there are heaps of different things that come into consideration with boot time like all different hardware like motherboard and so on so they cant really even give anyone a average because it will vary for everyone having different components.
