what to do if your monitor is black and says vga no signal asus

when I trun my computer on my monitor says asus and then vga no signal and then it goes black and there is an orange light. please help me.

We need a lot more details to give you a good answer. What are the details of your build - motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, monitor, GPU? Is it a laptop or desktop? How old is the build? Did you build it yourself or is it store-bought? Is this a new development on a previously working build, or is this the first time you've fired the system up? Any details surrounding the problem will help a lot when we try to do remote diagnostics at second-hand.

check cables..make sure their both fully in and locked. Check the source..have you used vga, dvi, or hdmi? You might need to change the source on your monitor depending upon what setup you're actually using.

use deductive reasoning..go down the line to narrow down where the issue is.

The monitor does not automatically select the input source. You must use the select input button just to the left of the power button. Repeatedly push the button until the correct input source is selected. Unfortunately when the monitor does not detect the selected input it powers down and the select input button may not work correctly. A way around this is to connect the monitor to a VGA input since that it what it is apparently looking for. Power up the monitor and the input source. Then you can use the select input button to change the selection to the appropriate source, HDMI, DVI, etc. Reconnect the monitor to the new input source.

You are a life-saver. Your answer helped me solve the monitor problem in a few seconds. My husband is back on the computer listening to his songs. He was a computer expert until he developed Parkinson's. I am computer illiterate and got lucky to find your explanation above. Muchas Gracias.

hey !!! sushant here !! see ..i have the same problems and i was suffering it for last 7 days.. it really upsets.. I tried whole goggle for solving this.no solution for this.
but one day It get solved automatically!!! u know how??
1) start your pc .wait for screen to display VGA no signal , HDMI -no signal.ur display going off.
2) now get depressed. wait 2 more mins ..and screen comes live again and ur display is back try this.

1. Press the Power Button.
2. You will see the ASUS logo for about 5 seconds.
3. The "VGA no signal" message appears.
4. Depending what ASUS monitor model you have, there should be a button on the bottom of your monitor that looks like a rectangle (representing the monitor) with an horizontal line from left to center. Press it as soon as you see the "VGA No signal" message. The button icon might look like this:

5. Doing so will now switch to "No DVI SIGNAL" message. If you are using a DVI cord, after a few seconds the Desktop will pop onscreen. If you are using a HDMI cable, however, you must press the Mode button (#4 above) again until it says "HDMI" onscreen. After a few seconds, the Desktop will pop onscreen.

NOTE: Clicking that button many times in a row will not do much. You need to physically see onscreen when it switches from NO VGA SIGNAL --> to NO DVI SIGNAL --> to HDMI. Wait a few seconds between pushing that button until you can read onscreen the messages. Once it sits on HDMI, wait a few seconds until the Desktop shows up onscreen. Same if you are using a DVI cord.

I had this same problem just now. I loaded this page to find a solution. I couldn't find one, so I troubleshooted on my own and this is what made it work. My model is ASUS VG278HV (27").

Omg! I've read so many of these and unfortunately I had to figure it out myself. None of the solutions helped me. I had my laptop (broken screen) set up perfectly with my Acer monitor at home. Now I'm on a business trip and it hasn't been connecting saying "no signal". I tried everything, making sure the VGA cord was plugged in then turning everything on, unplugging everything and turning on then plugging everything in. Closing the laptop screen while plugged into monitor after powering on... blah blah blah. After literally trying every possible way and trying all the pointers here, I thought, hmm I haven't tried switching the VGA cord around... I doubted that would work but I had no other option left. So I unplugged the VGA from the laptop and used that end for the monitor and used the side that was in the monitor and used it in the laptop..... wtf?! Voila! It worked! Hahahah wth?! It was literally that simple and still makes no sense to me, but I decided to post it here in case it helps someone
