Yesterday I shut down my laptop and installed windows updates, now it has been stuck on update 8 of 12 for the past 10 hours. I searched the web for a while and found that pressing ctrl alt delete plus some other steps afterwards normally fixes the problem but when I press ctrl alt delete nothing happens. I also saw online that unplugging during an update can wreck you're computer so I don't want to do that either.
Is there any way to fix this?

Solution
after 10 hours you can assume its broken.
reboot the pc and see what happens. if it locks up then use the bios boot selector (normally f8/12 at the bios splash screen) and boot last good config.
if windows now boots, delete the microsoft update cache. %windir%\softwaredistribution\download (copy nd paste in explorer address bar)
delete everything you see.
1s done clean the registry and reboot
run microsoft update again... this will install all needed updates and possibly a few missed 1s.

if windows fails to boot try safe mode, if that fails you will have little choice but to repair install.
