gtx 770 or r9 280x

So i am trying to choose one of these two cards.. i have seen they have both been about neck and neck. i mostly play games like dragon age or assassins creed but would also like to occasionally play bf4 or 3.


my set up will be
asus m5a97 mother board
amd fx 8320 cpu
and i have an 850 w psu


any recommendations will be gladly considered

They both have their own advantages, the 770 has better core speed and memory speed but the 280x has more memory overall, it does use more power tho. As you mentioned it's pretty much neck and neck but I'd perhaps go with the 280x due to it being a bit cheaper.

The FX-8320 is going to bottleneck either one anyway, so go for the cheaper one. That's likely to be the R9 280X.
Or you could go for the GTX 770, in the hope that GPU-accelerated PhysX takes some of the physics burden off your CPU.

The GTX 770 is a bit faster and will allow you to enable advanced PhysX in Assassin's Creed IV.
