Hello,

I have been having this issue for quite sometime. However, its never been this bad. As or recently, my computer has been resetting back to bios w/o warning or any blue screens, the power completely shuts off. I have no clue if this has to do with my PSU, Memory, or MOBO. Right now i'm think either RAM or PSU. I am about to run memtest86 to see if I can rule it out, and I am going to flash a new bios version. So far i've cleaned all the dust in the case and reseated some of the cords, reset CMOS, and reset to bios default. Still resets, but not as quickly as it was doing previously. If any further information is required of me, please let me know.

My PSU: XFX Black Edition XPS-850W-BES 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS SILVER Certified
MOBO: Asus Sabertooth x58

While you're at it, you might want to check that you've got the latest GPU driver also. If you've used a different GPU in the past, you might try using Display Driver Uninstaller, then doing a fresh install of your GPU driver.

If it's crashing during gaming, it's possible that your CPU and/or GPU is overheating. Try downloading HWMonitor or similar and watch your temps. If your temps peak or spike before a crash, that might be the culprit, in which case you'll want to look at case cooling, thermal paste and CPU cooler.

My temps are good on load highest GPU gets to is 65C the CPU stays around 35C. Did a Memtest at bios, nothing bad came out and passed. I uninstalled and updated drivers for GPU, I'll see what happens. But I have a gut feeling it might be the power supply. I've also heard it could possibly be the CMOS battery, is that possible?

I don't know how likely it is, but it's worth checking if you can get a replacement battery. You've got a Tier 1 PSU, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's working right. If a CMOS battery change and BIOS update don't fix the problem, I think I would bench it and test it barebones.

Are the shutdowns purely random or are there certain activities that tend to trigger it?
