ok so im getting things ready to start my first custom build and i have chosen a dell xps 720 as my case (yes i know there is EXTREMELY better options but i like the case) and with the 720 the psu is mounted on the top and with the new power supplies the fan is on the top and there is very little room on the top where the psu goes so do i just go with a older style that exhausted out the back or is there a better option because i would like good efficiency too so if u have any suggestions please let me know

thanks

cases have more to do about looks then any other PC component so no need to apologize about the Dell case. Simply mount your chosen PSU fan side down and you will be fine. PSU are made to work with the fan up or fan down, just make sure you get a solid unit.

i would but the way the 720 is is that the psu sits on top of the drive cages and those sit on a solid aluminum plate

You just face the fan down in a top mounted case if there is no grill.

i would but the psu literally sits on it if i did that there would be close to zero air flow

That's a tough one , no Airflow in that situation.

Those case designs don't make sense.

That's why most people move the components to a better case , that has more ideal positions for the components , and improved Airflow.

you can mod the case if you want, make a cutout and install a net filter on the plate. otherwise check out pc power and cooling's web site, they sometimes sell their old stock of PSU that would work

looks like their web site is down, you can try amazon or ebay and see if you can find an old silencer from pc power and cooling
