Have completed a clone of my 500gb C drive (114 gb used) to 500 gb external hard drive. Cloned drive shows only 47gb used. Perhaps I should have created images? If so, can I put the images on on the same external drive that is now the clone??? Thanks!

Sounds like you did an image to me. A clone would result in the exact same files being on both drives. Can you browse the two and see if they are the same?

An image file would result in just 1 file (the image) being written to the external in addition to what was already there.

Thanks for your response. The software instruction was to "clone" and that's what I chose. There is an image option as well. In comparing the two drives, the folders do match. I am curious about the size difference, again the C drive showing 114gb of spaced used, while the external shows only 47gb used. What I would like to know: can I use this same external drive to make an images of the C drive? I'm unsure which is better -- image or clone, and guess if I do both -- then if the C drive fails, I'll have the proper backup. Thanks again for your assistance!
