The issue is a bit strange so I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

I have a large HDTV in the living room and in another room I have my computer with three displays on my desk. The left and right displays are connected via DVI while the center display is connected via HDMI. I have a simple HDMI splitter that takes the single HDMI output from my computer and splits it into two outputs. One of them I use for the center display on my desk. The other I use for the HDTV in the living room. I do this so that the living room HDTV is a *copy* of whatever is on my center display on my desk.

It more or less works as intended, however when I turn on the HDTV, my desktop displays will go black for several seconds, and the windows will be rearranged onto different displays. It's essentially the same thing that would happen if you disconnected an active display from the windows desktop. I know the computer compensates for this by rearranging the items to displays still connected. However, I'm not actually removing any displays from the windows desktop.

One thing I noticed is that when I go to my screen resolution options, the computer only sees the two side displays and the large HDTV, even if the HDTV is not on. It doesn't actually list my desktop center display. I realize it won't have all four, because of the splitter. However I'm wondering why it only sees the HDTV. It doesn't matter which ports I use on the splitter. The only way the computer will list my desktop center display is if I unplug the HDTV cable, which is not a solution.

So is there anything I can do to prevent my desktop from being rearranged when I turn on the HDTV? Sometimes it screws up my wallpaper, too.

Here's a simple diagram of my setup: http://snaps.vertigofx.com/033/snap_(2014-08-18)(13.31.34)_1928.png
EDIT: (Looks like this forum breaks the link, sorry. Guess you'll have to copy/paste.)
