Hello, I have been using a 24inch TV as my main monitor for 2 years. Only recently I have been looking into getting a 2nd monitor, making my soon to be new monitor my main for gaming. Now I have seen a lot of monitors in the past few days. IPS, TN, 60hz, 120hz etc. I will be using this new monitor for gaming, so I guess I need a low g2g responsive time and input lag monitor? (not very good with monitors). I have seen a lot about IPS vs TN, the only thing that puts me off, people saying there is ghosting on IPS panels and TN panels are made for gaming, is it true? However I will link a few of the monitors I have looked at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ViewSonic-VX2270SMH-LED-1080p-W... http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/monitors-and-pro... http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VE247H-Widescreen-Intellig... http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GL2450HM-Widescreen-Multim...

Lastly my budget is MAX £200 but I wouldn't like to spend that much.

Im not going to list a monitor, but i will tell you something about them.

A low response time monitor usually has a sacrifice of graphic quality while it is very fast in response and is used for fps games.

A medium/high response time monitor has a great performance of graphic quality while it is fast in response time and is used for games like action, and adventure.

Example: Skyrim

What kinds of games do you play? If you are a League of legends kind of guy, go for IPS if you can afford one. If you play shooters and games where reaction time really matters then you might be better off sticking to TN panels. For FPS gaming, 1ms response time on a 24" TN 1080p panel should not be hard to find at your budget.

The IPS monitor will make your display look a lot prettier because of the more accurate colors. That ViewSonic IPS monitor you looked at has a response time of 7ms, which is a little slow. If you don't play FPS games competitively, though, it is a great choice.

I hope I've helped you!

I play all of kind of games but mainly LoL, FIFA, CSGO, BF3/4 and FIFA. Won't a TN panel help my reaction for league of legends? or are the better colors better?. Also I have a 24inch Sharp TV I am using right now and don't TV's have much higher response times than monitors? Thanks for the help guys.

I don't play LoL, but if reaction time matters then yes TN will usually be better. IPS looks damn fine though.

And no, TVs usually do not have much higher response times than monitors. Many TVs have much higher REFRESH RATES than monitors. 120 Hz, for example, is rather common among televisions, but not mainstream yet in monitors. Response time is not the same. Here is a Tom's forum explaining the difference: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1855770/understa...

TVs are (no surprise here) better for watching movies. However, monitors are better for playing games that require fast reactions. So ultimately, if you are competitive about the games you play, especially, BF3/4, then get a TN monitor with a 1 or 2ms response time. Unless you commonly get more than 60fps in the games you play, all you need is 60Hz
