Hello, I wanted to purchase a gtx 550 TI but I wanted to know if it will work on my computer. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en...

The issue is that when i purchased the 600 and 700 series, it didnt work on my computer due to a compatibility issue. I was told that the motherboard that I have is old and it cannot handle any 600s or 700s.

I got a new psu and its 600 watts atm, so can someone please tell me if my computer can handle gtx 550ti?

Thank you very much for your time.

-Ahmed

It will be hit and miss. HP has the nasty habit of "locking" the MB BIOS to only recognize cards it sells. They do this to prevent users from using too demanding of a card and frying something. And to make a profit selling aftermarket cards of thru them.

Yes it will. Actually, any entry-level graphics card should work just fine. (Given the 600w limitation and PCIe 2.0 limited bandwidth)

$71 and no refund... can you at least find one that offers a refund if it doesn't work in your HP?

No manufacturer's name on the card? Just an Nvidia sticker? Hmmm.... Maybe it was (as noted) an OEM card that was used with Dells, HPs, Gateways, etc. The seller has a decent feed back and numerous sales. At least you can return it if your PC doesn't recognize it.
