GPU Fan problem

Okay, First to start off with I will list my specs and what-not.
Motherboard:NFORCE 680i LT SLI
GraphicsCard:XFX Radeon Double D R9 280
PowerSupply:Solid Gear ATX12V/EPS12V
Now onto the problem, I am no computer expert FAR from it, so I could use any help. The fans to the video card will not spin by themselves for some reason when i unplug the 8pin connector they start but then I have no video, And when the pins are in I get video and no fans. This video card is amazing but gets hot really fast. I don't know if its the power supply or what. Any help i would appreciate.

How many watts is that PSU?

It obviously doesn't need an 8 pin connector then. Just leave the 6pin in if it is going well. Make sure it gets enough power.

I think you may have misunderstood the OP. He said when the 8 pin is removed, he has no video, but the fans spin. The reason he has no video is because the card requires all +12V pins be populated before it will produce a display.

...it has a 58A (+12V) rail rated at nearly 700W. That should be sufficient for that card with headroom to spare. The only explanation I can come up with using the info you provided, is that the card is defective. You obviously cannot run the card if the fans don't spin. The card will overheat and do damage in short order.

Is it possible that the power supply is just bad, I ordered the video card and the power supply at the same time.*EDIT* then again if it was the power supply all of it wouldn't work.

I guess there's always that possibility. But one or the other is not functioning as it should. That much is obvious. Do you have another card or PSU to test with? A friend who will let you try the card in his PC?

The card, is a Geforce GTX 9500 GT and the power supply I have no idea what that one was, It's just black I know it was like 550 watts which is why i got this new one so it could support my new video card.
