Using VGA Drivers

Does anyone use generic VGA drivers in this day and age (besides me)? Because of persistent and unsolvable display driver failures, I gave up on Nvidia drivers for my 8400GS card. I'm using the VGA drivers in Vista 32 bits, SP2, which I prefer to seven. I'm not a gamer, and just use this computer for email and internet. It's a Gateway GT5656 desktop, Nvidia 6150SE chipset, 8 GB ram, 3 Ghz AMD dual core processor. On the other drive, I have Linux Mint 64 bits. That OS works fine with this card, no display drive failures. I've been working with folks on a Vista Forum, but they basically tell me I have faulty hardware. Maybe so, but then why would the problem only be in vista, and not Linux?

Anyway, am I crazy for using the old VGA drivers from 2006? they are stable, never have any problems. Or should I think about upgrading my graphics card, or maybe even the mobo?

thanks, michael
