my Iomega external HDD recently became infested by ants. i managed to carefully open it up, clean out the drive and put it back together. but the critters have apparently caused some damage to the HDD as whenever i connect it to my laptop and power it on, my laptop does not recognize the HDD. the platters seem to be spinning just fine however it seems the read/write head seems to have some difficulty moving.

is there any way i can recover my data on the HDD as it is of great value to me.

please help!!!

try pluging the drive into the pc by a normal data cable see if the case i\o card is damaged or the drive is. if it the drive yur better off looking for a data recovery lab that can copy the data off.

Open the external drive case and install the drive INTO your computer internally. If the drive comes up there, the enclosure is dead/dying. If the drive does NOT come up, send the drive off for data recovery. One place I recommend is Kroll Ontrack. They are really reliable.
